I was born and raised in western Oklahoma, but it was a spring ski trip to Colorado while I was
attending the University of Oklahoma that I fell in love with the mountains.   Skiing became the
central theme of my life.   A few years later in 1974 I spent the summer in Fairbanks, Alaska building
log houses with my uncle.   Spending that summer in Alaska and working at something I had never done
before started me thinking about learning to paint the mountains.
After returning to Oklahoma I
began to learn about art. I eventually took some classes from Hollis Howard, who was a teacher
at the Oklahoma School of Liberal Arts.   Hollis taught me to draw and paint my own paintings and
really got me started in the right direction.   I later moved to Durango Colorado in my search for
snow.   Then I moved to South Lake Tahoe, Ca. spending 13 years there skiing and working as a dealer
in a casino, later moving to Las Vegas before moving to Tucson in 2003.   It was a ski
accident in 2006 that made me realize that I needed to become more serious about my art.
I have recently attended plein aire workshops with nationally known artist Scott Jennings in Sedona,
Arizona, and Tom Lockhart in Ouray, Colorado.   Both of these men greatly improved my art and helped me get
on to where i am now.   I concentrate on oil paintings of places I have skied, national parks I have
visited, and the landscape around Tucson.   My wife, Garnet, a registered nurse, and I recently bought
a home in Vail, Arizona, where we enjoy golfing and country western dancing in our spare time.
