Meet Maxine Ranicke...

Maxine Ranicke:
Artist

Raised in Hawaii I was impressed with the power and diversity of nature.   I have seen buildings moved by tidal waves, volcanic eruptions flowing over towns and tiny macadamia trees taking root in solid lava.

I felt the spirituality of the Hawaiian landscape and grew up with a multitude of cultures.   Multiethnic faces of all types with eyes and noses different but the same inside.

My paintings are usually about people or animals and their interactions with each other or with nature.   I want viewers to feel the emotional content or the mood created in the painting.   I feel it’s an achievement if it takes more than ONE look to get involved with a painting.

My first art lessons as a kid were given by family friend and artist, Maurice Kidjel in his tiny shack of a studio on the windward side of O’ahu.   Since then I have taken classes at Cornish Art Institute, the New School of Visual Art, The Factory, University of Washington, Kirkland Art Center and continue learning through workshops and classes sponsored by the SaddleBrooke Art Guild.

In 2000 I was accepted into a large juried show in Seattle where I sold my first painting to a stranger.   What a thrill!

I began using oils seven years ago and each new painting brings me closer to the loose, bold stroke personal style I am working to achieve. 2009   (520) 825-1331.
