Artist Statement:
Generally I start with an idea and as I apply the paint and emotions flow, shapes appear and
my creativity takes over.   A new world opens, as I begin to see the ordinary world anew.
  I
still confront the fears we all face of trying something new and unfamiliar but, my art
takes me away from the busy world of everyday life.   It is a way of expressing and renewing
my spirit with each and every brush stroke.

BIO
Karen’s love for art began in her native city of Chicago.   While growing up, almost every
weekend was spent at the Art Institute of Chicago, admiring the Masters of the world.   In
1976 she moved to Cincinnati, OH.   She studied studio drawing and watercolor at the
Cincinnati Art Academy.   However, her career and raising a family delayed her pursuit of
art.
Upon retirement she and her husband moved to the Tucson area.   In 2001 she started taking
drawing classes with Vinnie Rubio.   A year later, oil became her medium of choice.   She
began taking art classes through Central Arizona College and workshops with various artists,
including Laurie Brussel, Manual De Leon, Harry Greene, Cima Bozorgmehr and Christine
Lytwynczuk.   In 2004 she began taking live studio workshops at the Muse Community Arts
Center, Tucson-Pima Arts Center, Stone Gallery and the Art Academy in Oro Valley.
Her artwork has been exhibited at Western Park Services in Oro Valley, Ventana Medical
Systems in Oro Valley, Dinnerware Gallery, J&R Gallery, the Mountainview Arts Center,
Desert Penguin Gallery and Clare’s Café in Catalina.   She is a member of the Saddlebrooke
Fine Arts Guild, and the Southern Arizona Fine Arts Guild.
