"David Cushing and artists Henry El Kaim and George Hubbard have created
a new art form with a new medium developed by David Cushing. The multi-color
wall sculptures change color with the angle of view.
The "aurora-like nebular celestial cloud effect comes from a Spectralonic
coating, wherein the materials are vaporized o a vacuum chamber and
deposited on the metallic substrate, forming a permanent molecular bond.
Deposits of several nanometer thick layers of materials provide the vivid colors
across the panel.
David Cushing retired to Tucson, AZ in 2004, and is a thin film
consultant who has more than 50 years experience in the optical coating field.
He is a Visiting Scientist at the University of Arizona. He has authored
papers on a variety of optical fiber types and holds 7 US patents and a number
of world patents.
We are profoundly saddened at the loss of David Cushing on November 20th. His
genius as well as his friendship will be deeply missed."
